SetterTech was brought into this project to bridge the gap between agricultural practices and the stormwater and water quality goals of Dane County. SetterTech was tasked with the development of a concept plan (which has been accepted by Dane County Land Conservation and implemented) which meshed the desires and capabilities of a dairy farm producer and the water quality goals of the County. The Concept plan evolved into a plan that included a new style of conveyance ditch (which is currently being review for potential acceptance by the EPA), creation of restored wetlands, invasive species control, biofuel / warm season crops, harvestable buffer strips, runoff diversions, scheduled cropping rotations, water quality improvements and substantial habitat restoration.
This project will treat millions of gallons of stormwater runoff water while creating restored wetlands and sustainable low impact production crops. SetterTech developed all preliminary benefit calculations, budgets, long range management plans and permit acquisitions. SetterTech also handled communications between the County and the Ag producer and this relationship is now very strong. At this time USGS is monitoring the site to determine water quality improvement and runoff reduction options.
